Argentine Tango
a passionate, improvisational social dance
Service Description
Argentine tango is a passionate and improvisational social dance that originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina and has become popular worldwide. It is characterized by the close embrace, the musicality, and expressive connection between partners. Argentine tango emphasizes connection, improvisation, and musical interpretation rather than fixed choreography. The dance is much more than a sequence of steps (also called elements): it’s a language between the partners that blends music, movement and human connection. There are several styles of Argentine Tango, with different types of Tango danced at milongas or social dances (Note: Milonga is both - a social dance, and a type of Tango dancing). The Milonga dance is more upbeat than Tango and the music has a quicker tempo. The Tango Vals is also danced to similar patterns as the Tango, but the music for the Tango Vals is similar to a fast Viennese Waltz. The three dances are characterized by different music but many basic elements are interchangeable in the three dances. Classes take place on Wednesdays from 6:15pm-8:00pm.
